PART 5: The Collapse of the Empire

"This is a setup! A ridiculous, fabricated lie!" Julian screamed, his face turning an ugly, mottled red as the federal agents moved forward to restrain him. "You can't touch me! I am the Director of this institution!"

"Not anymore," Arthur said coldly. "As of three minutes ago, the board of trustees convened an emergency meeting via secure link. You have been stripped of your title, your access keys have been revoked, and your assets within the hospital banking system have been frozen."

Julian struggled as the handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists. The reality of the situation was beginning to pierce through his grand delusion, but he still fought it. He turned his eyes to me, burning with a venomous, unadulterated rage.

"You think you've won, you old hag?!" he spat, lunging toward me until an agent dragged him back. "You think Chloe is safe? My associates—the people I sell to—they won't let this drop! They'll come for her! They'll come for the kid!"

I walked up to him, stopping so close I could see the sweat beads forming on his forehead. The gentle grandmother was gone. The cold architect of his ruin stood before him.

"Do you know why I let you marry my daughter, Julian?" I asked him, my voice dangerously calm. "Because I thought you were a good man. I thought you would protect her. I made a mistake. But unlike you, I know how to correct my mistakes permanently."

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small, encrypted flash drive—the final piece of evidence I had pulled from the legacy mainframe.

"Your associates aren't going to help you, Julian. Because twenty seconds ago, I sent a complete list of your offshore accounts, your personal overseas contacts, and the identities of every buyer you ever dealt with to Interpol and the drug enforcement syndicates. By tomorrow morning, you won't just be a disgraced doctor. You will be a liability to some of the most dangerous organizations on earth. They won't be trying to save you. They will be trying to silence you."

The last remnants of color drained from Julian's face. His knees buckled slightly. For the first time, he realized that he wasn't the predator in this story. He was merely an amateur who had dared to play a game with a master.

"Take him away," Arthur ordered.

As the agents dragged a silently weeping, broken Julian Thorne down the corridor, the heavy iron doors of the sub-basement slammed shut behind him, cutting off his pathetic cries.
