Part 7: The Retirement Party

The day of the retirement party arrived. The local community center was decked out in balloons and banners. People from the factory, neighbors, and local officials were all in attendance. Gary stood at the front, holding a glass of champagne, ready to deliver a toast to Frank’s thirty years of "loyal service."
Hannah and Frank walked in together. The room fell silent. People whispered, eyes wide, seeing the daughter who had been erased, walking in beside the man who had exiled her.
"Frank?" Gary said, his smile faltering. "What is this? You said you were coming alone."
Frank didn't answer. He walked straight to the podium. He didn't look at his friends or his colleagues. He looked at the projector screen behind him.
"I’ve spent thirty years working for this company," Frank began, his voice steady. "I thought I was building a life for my family. I thought I was part of something honest."
He looked at Gary. "But for thirty years, I’ve been building a tomb."

Hannah walked up beside him. She held the USB drive in her hand. She didn't need to say a word. The screen flickered to life, showing the first of many documents—official reports of chemical spills, signatures of board members, and the hidden ledger that proved the systematic bribery of local inspectors.
The gasp that swept through the room was deafening.
