Part 10: A New Beginning

A year later, the house in Albany looked different. The bougainvillea was pruned, the windows were clean, and there were photos on the mantle—including a new one of Owen, Hannah, and a smiling, aged Frank sitting on the porch.

Hannah sat with her parents in the living room. The silence was no longer heavy. It was peaceful.

"You know," Frank said, watching Owen play in the backyard. "I still think about Leo. I think about what he could have been, if I hadn't been so afraid."

"He lives on in him," Hannah said, nodding toward her son. "He lives on in the fact that we finally did what was right."

Diane took Hannah’s hand. "We lost a lot of time, honey."

"We did," Hannah agreed. "But we found something else. We found that a family isn't defined by the secrets we keep to 'protect' each other. It’s defined by the truth we have the courage to face together."

As the sun set over the quiet neighborhood, the house didn't feel like a place where a girl was once cast out. It felt like a home where, against all odds, the truth had finally been allowed to set them all free.
