Part 4: The Game of Mirrors

Alejandro did not confront Julian. Instead, he retreated into the mask of the cold, unfeeling billionaire. He returned to the office, his presence at the Valmont headquarters sending a ripple of unease through the boardrooms. He played the part of the grieving, recovering husband to perfection, while beneath the surface, he was building a cage.

He began systematically dismantling Julian’s interests. Every project Julian touched, Alejandro either sabotaged or bought out from under him. He was starving his brother’s influence, turning his allies against him, and isolating him in a world where money no longer bought safety.

Meanwhile, at the mansion, Elena began to have flashes of memories that didn't belong to their life together. She remembered cold, sterile rooms. She remembered a voice—not Vivian’s, but a man’s—soothing her, promising her that if she just stayed quiet, she would be safe.

"Alejandro," she whispered one evening, her eyes wide with a sudden, sharp clarity. "It wasn't just her. There was someone else. A man. He smelled like clove cigarettes and expensive leather."

Alejandro’s grip on his glass tightened until it threatened to shatter. "Did you see his face, Elena?"

She shook her head, a tear tracing a path down her cheek. "No. But I remember the ring. A heavy gold band with a serpent coiled around a ruby."

Alejandro looked down at his own hand, then back to the memory of his brother. Julian always wore that ring. The pieces were no longer just falling into place; they were sharpening into a weapon.
