Part 28: Edward’s Decision
Two years after his surgery, Edward made a decision that shocked everyone.
He stepped down as CEO of Harrington Capital.
He didn’t retire completely — he remained on the board and kept significant shares — but he handed day-to-day leadership to a trusted executive and reduced his working hours dramatically.
When Maya asked him why, he answered simply:

“I spent most of my life building an empire. I want to spend whatever time I have left actually living in it.”
He bought a small house near the water in Connecticut and started spending more time there. He took up photography again — something he hadn’t done since his twenties — and often asked Maya for advice.
One afternoon, while they were sitting on the porch of his new house, Edward said quietly:

“I used to think I had to earn my place in this family by being successful. Now I realize the only thing that actually matters is showing up.”
Maya looked at him.

“You’re showing up now.”
