Part 17: The Ghost of the Past

A week after his release, Grant stood on a rainy street corner, holding a cheap plastic duffel bag containing everything he owned. He had nowhere to go. His father was still in prison, his sister was working a dead-end job, and his mother was a broken shell of herself.
Driven by a strange, self-destructive urge, he walked toward the wealthy district. He found himself standing outside the iron gates of the old Whitmore estate.
He expected to see the ruins of his childhood home, but what he saw instead stole the breath from his lungs.
The gaudy, arrogant mansion was completely gone. In its place stood a magnificent, modern pediatric hospital. The glass façade caught the afternoon light, glowing with warmth. Above the grand entrance, huge stainless-steel letters read:
$$ \text{\textbf{THE VICTORIA VALE PEDIATRIC MEDICAL CENTER}} $$

Children were entering with their parents, greeted by kind staff in bright uniforms. The very land that the Whitmores had used to look down on the world was now a sanctuary for the helpless.
Grant slumped against the perimeter fence, tears streaming down his face, mixing with the cold rain. He realized then that Elena hadn't just defeated them; she had completely rewritten the narrative of their existence. The Whitmore legacy was gone, utterly erased, replaced by a monument of grace and healing.
