Part 37: The Ghostly Museum

A year into her retirement, Elena felt a sudden, rare desire to visit the past one final time. Accompanied by Andre, who had also grown gray in her service, she drove to the site of the old Whitmore estate.

The Victoria Vale Pediatric Medical Center was now a massive, sprawling complex of healing. Thousands of children were treated there every year, completely free of charge. Elena walked through the beautifully landscaped public gardens, watching families sitting on benches, children laughing as they played in the fountains.

She stopped near a massive bronze statue of a mother holding a child, erected near the main entrance.

An old man, a retired doctor who didn't recognize her, walked up to stand beside her. "Beautiful place, isn't it?" he remarked, looking at the hospital. "They say a very powerful woman built this because she wanted to erase something cruel that happened here a long time ago."

Elena looked up at the glass windows reflecting the bright afternoon sun.

"She didn't erase it," Elena said softly, a faint, elegant smile on her lips. "She just transformed it into something beautiful."
