Part 49: The Living Monument

A year into her reign, Elena Junior took her mother, Victoria, who was now enjoying a peaceful, deeply deserved retirement, on a private trip to the heart of the city. They walked together through the bustling corridors of the Victoria Vale Pediatric Medical Center.

The hospital had grown into a massive city of healing, research, and hope. Everywhere they looked, children were recovering, parents were smiling, and doctors were working with the best equipment the world could offer.

As they walked past the central courtyard, they saw a group of young medical students gathered around the bronze statue of the mother and child. A young woman, an exchange student from a small village in South America who had studied under a Vale scholarship, was speaking to her peers.

"They say the woman who founded this place was once told that pride doesn't pay hospital bills," the student said, looking up at the bronze inscription. "She proved them wrong. Her pride built the hospital that pays for everyone else’s."

Elena Junior and Victoria stood in the shadow of the corridor, watching the students nod in deep respect before moving to their shifts.

Victoria wrapped her arm around her daughter’s waist, a single tear of profound happiness catching the light of the sun streaming through the glass roof. "Your grandmother would be so incredibly proud of you, Elena."

"She is here, Mother," Elena Junior whispered, looking at the laughing children in the courtyard. "She never left."
